John Lopez is the Senior Director of Government Relations for Federal Advocates Inc., covering a diverse portfolio of issues for its valued clients. Prior to joining the firm in 2017, John led government and regulatory affairs for Cox Communications Las Vegas, a highly profitable division of the nation’s largest privately-held telecommunications company. John was also a vice president of government affairs for R&R Partners, the creator of the “What Happens Here Stays Here” worldwide advertising campaign for Las Vegas tourism, and later the chief lobbyist for the city of Las Vegas.
John has over 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill and in the private sector successfully managing numerous legislative and political issues and shepherding bills through Congress that have been signed in to law by Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama. He secured over $3 billion for Nevada through various federal public lands acts.
John served as a senior Republican leadership staff member and chief of staff to former U.S. Senator John Ensign (R-Nev.). Senator Ensign was the past chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Senate Republican Policy Committee, and a member of the influential Finance, Commerce, and Budget panels. John is regarded by his peers as a problem solver and inclined toward bipartisanship.
John’s proudest personal achievement is writing a law that mandated the placement of a historical marker at the Lincoln Memorial on the site of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
