Senior Director of Government Affairs
Michael Stroud currently serves as the Senior Director of Government Affairs. Prior to joining the Firm, Michael served as the Congressional Relations Officer for the U.S. International Trade Commission, and before coming to the Commission, Michael was the Director for Intergovernmental Relations for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), which is a water and wastewater utility operating in Maryland. Before WSSC, Michael served in several roles at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including Acting Assistant Secretary for the Private Sector Office at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In August 2010, Michael joined the Department as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs focusing on the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2010, Michael concluded an almost 5-year tenure with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security, serving as the Deputy Chief Counsel and a Subcommittee Director for handling Emergency Communications Preparedness and Response as well as Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection.
In 1998, Michael started his legal career at the law Firm of Bracewell LLP in the Government Relations and Strategy Group. Then, in 2001, Michael worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s General Counsel’s Office advising the Assistant Secretary for Import Administration on international trade cases addressing unfair trade practices. After the Department of Commerce, Michael worked with a national non-profit, the American Cancer Society, as an Associate Corporation Counsel. Michael left the American Cancer Society to serve on Capitol Hill for the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Homeland Security. Michael is a graduate of George Washington University Law School and Cornell University.
